Memphian ambulance. I helped Chris get this one into his collection and I believe it may have been the last on that he added to his collection? This one came from Kamrar Iowa! I was showing my 1957 Desoto Firesweep sedan in the main atrium of the valley west mall in Des Moines when a guy came up to me and said they had an ambulance just like that in his home town where he was on the volunteer fire department. He took my number and called me back in a couple days when he confirmed that it was still there. I went up to look and was amazed at how complete it was down to the stretcher. I could not afford it at the time so I called Chris and told him about it. He had it re painted and repaired the rear rust with new quarter panels out of Arizona he also did some work to the 350 engine. Chris told me he was pulled over by the Spencer police department once and told he had to cover the lights and siren when he drove it so people would not think it was still in service. I was also told that they used it to take his coffin to the cemetery (I know he would have loved that) This is not made from a station wagon! They took 4-door sedans and custom made the entire rear roof and tailgate area. I remember stopping in to see the body man when he was doing the rear quarters and he was amazed at the craftsmanship in the tight rear are between the body and the fin. He said they did an awesome lead job! I would guess that the under dash air was installed by memphian coach works to keep patients cool on the way to the hospital? Correct hooded 1958 era front fender mirrors excellent chrome trim on the normally pitted taillight towers. Lights and sirens work! Clock and radio delete and some wear on front seat upholstery. 60,619 miles on the odometer original factory forward look keys. This would make a great movie car!

Firedome four-door hardtop Chris told me that he purchased this one new and used it to go around the country getting more Desotos and it still has the trailer hitch. They also used it as their daily driver for a number of years. Car has some rust in the lower rockers and rear quarters. Appears to be a spring special package with the aluminum insert I the sweep and the small strips on the trunk. There is some rust on the rear roof pillar where it meets the body on the passenger side. Has clock and radio and the seats have been recovered in non-original fabrics. It also sports some very rare factory or dealer installed correct accessory floor mats. Steering wheel is nice! Power steering, power brakes, trailer brakes. While playing with my new digital recorder I erased the file on this one so I do not know the miles until the next trip up but I remember they were not low!

My opinions and descriptions?

All of my opinions and descriptions of these cars are just that "opinions" I do not guarantee anything for accuracy so take it all with a grain of salt and look at the pictures (and videos soon) when placing bids on these cars at the auction. Do not come back to me crying that the car was not perfect because my description of nice varies from yours! I provide these images and descriptions as a public service only, I do not own nor have I owned Any of these cars I was just a friend of the collector that amassed them and a Desoto collector and fanatic not seeking treatment! Also I am a terrible typer and not an english major so there will be lots of typos. .
